Our Team
Steve & Becky Wood
SONBT Founders
SONBT was born in the hearts of Steve and Becky Wood in 2017 after multiple missions trips to Uganda. They were moved by the living conditions in the slum areas of Kampala and the number of kids who were not in school. Steve and Becky founded SONBT with the intention of giving a hand up to families in the slums without subtracting from their responsibility and dignity in providing education for their children.
Nick Oliver
SONBT Programs Manager
Nick first came to Uganda in 2015 and now he lives there permanently as he oversees all of SONBT's programs. He bridges the gap between the American and Ugandan cultures and makes sure the team works together cohesively. Nick is passionate about the Christian development in the program, discipling the staff and leading Bible studies with the parents in the slum communities.
Betty Nakirijja
SONBT Social Worker
Betty began working with Serving Our Neighbors for a Better Tomorrow (SONBT) in 2018 as a social worker. Growing up in Kampala, Betty attended Makerere University where she received a degree in Social Sciences. Betty has been an extremely valuable asset to the SONBT team as she works closely with the kids and their families. She is the face of SONBT in the slum communities where we serve.
Joan Kwagala
SONBT Partner
Joan is the founders of a children's program in Namuwongo slum called Child Love Uganda (CLU). CLU and SONBT were brought together by their similar values and Joan graciously volunteers with SONBT to serve the children and families of Namuwongo. Joan is motivated by her own difficult upbringing and desire to give a hand up to those who need it.
Mrs. Emma Sempa
SONBT Partner
Emma is a professional guidance counselor and an essential asset to the SONBT team. She has worked with students in several international schools, helping them identify their gifts and passions and helping them choose suitable career paths. Emma frequently works with SONBT's high school students who are preparing for the next step.
