Our Mission
SONBT was created to serve our neighbors for a better tomorrow.
Our Neighbors – Our neighbors fall into essentially two main categories, those looking for ways to help others and those needing help.
THOSE LOOKING FOR WAYS TO HELP
For those looking for ways to help our focus here is on three distinct groups:
-
Those that want to know all of their resources will go directly to the need,
-
Those that want to know that their donation is going to a program that makes a difference, and
-
Those that want to know that there is complete financial transparency and accountability.
To address the first group, SONBT has sponsor donors that are covering 100% of the overhead so every penny donated for a designated program goes to that program.
To address the second group, SONBT commits to constantly evaluate all of its programs to make sure the program is achieving the desired results. This means we have been onsite in Uganda to personally see the program and we will make regular future on-site visits.
To address the third group, SONBT will make its financial statements available to anyone who asks.
THOSE NEEDING HELP
Our focus is serving the people of Uganda, specifically the children of the slums of Kampala. There are many under-resourced places in our world but we have chosen Uganda as our focus area.
Serve - Much to our surprise as we first became aware of the needs in the various disadvantaged areas of the world the idea of how to best serve these areas is far more complicated than we imagined. Many try to serve and, in reality, cause more harm than good. Our fundamental approach is to provide a hand up and not a hand out and to constantly challenge ourselves to make sure we are in fact helping more than hurting.
Better Tomorrow - The basic concept here is to focus on programs that will be effective in the long term. This means we are committed to a long-term approach. We will do this by focusing on:
-
Education
-
Family development
-
Christian development
