Beating the Odds

This shocking article in the New York Times depicts the sad reality of what coronavirus has done to education in Uganda. The pandemic has wreaked havoc on school owners, teachers, and most especially students. School owners have converted their schools into clinics and other businesses. Teachers have abandoned education in search of more reliable employment. And students have lost sight of the value of education.

During this pandemic, many students have opted to work instead of study. Settling for simple work like selling fruit or hauling material at building sites, the small pay has blinded them to the long term worth of education. Still, older female students have abandoned education to pursue getting married.

Despite all these threats, SONBT has seen to it that none of our students fall victim. We have worked tirelessly to instill the value of education in our students and make sure that they have been engaged academically during this school closure. We will not lose sight of our goal to see all of our students graduate high school.

THANK YOU!

In a season of thankfulness, we realize that we could never accomplish our mission without all of you! Thank you for your continual prayer and support in securing the future of these students.
