SONBT was started with the goal of helping the disadvantaged children of the slums of Kampala. Our strategy for accomplishing this unfolded in 3 major focal points: helping students complete their high school education, equipping their families to fulfill their responsibilities in the child's life, and to promote growth in their knowledge and faith in Jesus Christ.
The children in these slum communities are likely facing the most difficult season of their lives. Schools have been closed for nearly 2 years, families have experienced a huge economic setback, and the risks of living in a slum are constantly looming.
Now more than ever, there exists many obstacles in our goal to break the cycle of poverty through education. The longer children remain out of school, the higher the chances are that students may drop out. We are diligently combatting this by recruiting teachers to privately tutor our 30 students 5 days per week. With this in place, they can stay on track educationally and lower the risk of dropping out due to the pandemic.
It dawned on us that it is no coincidence to be in a position to help these children in such a time as this. We were put in this situation to serve a great need. As challenging as it may be, we trust that the Lord will guide us through.
